However, they do have a few flaws however, which prevent them from being our first option. For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.

Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. It's also quiet and works when you're at work or in school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad to a dry one in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also features strong suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen in other robotic cleaner and mop vacuum/mop combinations.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination has a sleek, circular look that looks much like a Roomba unit than the boxy models from the rivals. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a combination modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and [Redirect Only] self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and some extra cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner, similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and fills up the water tank, as well as washes and dries the mop pads.

The smart robot uses the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, [Redirect-302] navigating more intelligently than its top rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't foolproof in our testing and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Also a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you'd expect from its price tag. It is a great job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to create a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance. The app also gives access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like adorable eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it is more likely to get caught on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums that we have examined. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
