Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting

The Engine is Ready to Start

However, just like any battery-powered electronic device, a key fob can be depleted of its charge or cease functioning over time. If you've noticed that your key fob is less responsive when you press the lock or unlock buttons, that's a good sign that it's in need of a replacement battery.

If your car is equipped with an installed dealer-installed Engine Remote Start accessory, you can also utilize the key fob to activate this feature. The car will be heated or cooled at the same temperature it was set to when it was parked. It can run for up 15 minutes.

Take off the back cover of the key fob by using your fingernail. A button should be located underneath the cover on an angle near the body's edge. Slide it down and to the right. The cover will come free and slide away, revealing the manual key blade within! If you're not able to locate the button, search the now-uncovered manual key access to find a lever or slot.

Closing the Windows

One of the features that is hidden on Volvo key fobs is that you are able to lower all windows in a matter of seconds when you use them. This is useful when you're trying to squeeze into parking spaces that are tight or simply want fresh air while driving.

To unlock the windows do this, press and hold down the unlock button on your Volvo remote for four seconds. This will lower the windows as well as the sunroof, if there is one. After you've finished using the vehicle, you can close all windows by pressing the lock button again for four seconds.

You can also use your key fob for activating your car's panic alarm. It will emit an ominous sound that will draw attention and deter thieves. It also helps you return home safely if you've been out all night. This feature is helpful for those who reside in an area that is dangerous or want to ensure your family's safety when you are away from home.

The opening of the Tailgate

Volvo has loaded its key fob with variety of useful features. These are great when you have your hands full with shopping, or helping your children pack their sports equipment after a session.

If you own the Hands-Free Liftgate with Logo Projection and Programmable Height (if equipped) You can open it using the key fob. You can open the liftgate by pressing the button, and then close it using the same button.

Use the key fob to ensure you are ready to start your vehicle. (Don't worry if your battery fails or your car won't start since it also has an electronic key slot). This is just one of the many tricks you can use for your brand new Volvo.

Turning off the Alarm

Modern key fobs are more practical than a mechanical car key. They don't always work perfectly, and the batteries can go out. It is possible to program your key fob at home in case you are in a hurry or don't have time go to the shop.

Find a clean work surface and lay out your key fob, battery and extra keys. Place the key fob with the Volvo logo facing upwards and then find a small black button on the left-hand side of the fob. Slide it downwards and to the right. The cover should loosen and fall off leaving the key's mechanical blade beneath it.

Press the key fob's unlock button twice quickly, and you will be able opening all of the doors and the tailgate. The lock button also shuts the sunroof and windows (if fitted) by pressing it for 2 seconds. Reconnect the battery, and the alarm should cease. If not, the owner's guide should contain a reset process.
