Canon has announced the EOS R8, EOS R50, and two interchangeable lenses. The EOS R8 will be released in late April, with a direct sales price of 264,000 yen for the body only and 293,700 yen for the 24-50mm lens kit (both including tax). It is a popular 35mm mirrorless camera, and the EOS RP will be sold alongside it. The image sensor is a 24.2 megapixel CMOS image sensor similar to the EOS R6 Mark II, and the image engine is DIGIC X. It is equipped with an electronic front curtain shutter (the rear curtain is a mechanical shutter) and an electronic shutter, rather than a pure mechanical shutter. The electronic front curtain shutter reduces rolling shutter distortion. The electronic shutter can be set to 1/8000 second (1/16000 second in S and M modes). The AF is dual pixel CMOS AF. Deep learning technology is used to automatically recognize people, animals, and various vehicles. The image sensitivity is ISO 100-102400, the continuous shooting speed is about 6 frames per second with electronic front curtain, and about 40 frames with electronic shutter. The in-body sensor shift type image stabilization is omitted. Video is 4K60p with 6K oversampling, and the maximum recording time is about 2 hours. The EVF is about 2.36 million dots, and the rear monitor is a 3-inch vari-angle type with about 1.62 million dots. The recording media is a single slot SD UHS-II (in the battery compartment). The power source is the same LP-E17 as the EOS RP, and USB power supply is possible. It weighs about 414 grams (body only) and is about 132.5X86.1X70.0 mm in size.

The EOS R50 will be released in late March, and the direct sales price is 111,100 yen for the body only, 126,500 yen for the 18-45mm lens kit, and 156,200 yen for the double zoom kit with 55-210mm added (all prices include tax). The image sensor is a CMOS sensor with approximately 24.2 million pixels, and the image engine is DIGIC X. The continuous shooting speed is approximately 12 frames with electronic front curtain, approximately 15 frames with electronic shutter, and the image sensitivity is ISO 100-32000. The AF is dual pixel CMOS AF. Deep learning technology enables automatic subject recognition similar to the EOS R8. Video is 4K30p with 6K oversampling. The in-body image stabilization mechanism is omitted. The EVF is approximately 2.36 million dots, and the rear monitor is a 3-inch vari-angle touch panel with approximately 1.62 million dots. The recording media is a single SD UHS-I slot. Another feature is the built-in flash. The battery is the same LP-E17 as the EOS R8. The body colors are black and white. The size and weight are 116.3X85.5X68.8mm and approximately 328g (black model).

The RF 24-50mm F4-6.3 IS STM will be released in late April. The direct sales price is 50,380 yen (tax included). The image stabilization is 4.5 steps effective with optical shift, and 7 steps equivalent with coordinated correction with the in-camera image stabilization. The lens consists of 8 elements in 8 groups, the minimum shooting distance is 0.3-0.35 meters, the aperture blades are 7, and the filter diameter is 58 mm. The size and weight are 69.6 x 58 mm, approximately 210 grams. The RF-S55-210mm F5-7.1 IS STM will be released in late March. The direct sales price is 60,500 yen (tax included). The image stabilization is 4.5 steps effective with optical shift, and 7 steps equivalent with coordinated correction with the in-body image stabilization. The lens consists of 11 elements in 8 groups including 2 UD lenses, the minimum shooting distance is 0.73 meters, the aperture blades are 7, and the filter diameter is 55 mm. The size and weight are 69 x 92.9 mm, approximately 270 grams.

P.S. OMDS will release the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 90mm F3.5 MACRO IS PRO on February 24th. The price is 231,000 yen (tax included). It is a telemacro lens with an angle of view equivalent to 180mm in 35mm format because it is for Micro Four Thirds. It has already been announced that it is in development. It has a maximum magnification of 2x, which is equivalent to 4x in 35mm format, and 8x when used with a teleconverter. It can be displayed on a large monitor via HDMI.
