How to Replace an audi key replacement cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician shows how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is situated on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 via a grey wire. The ECU uses this information to control the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends signals to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can activate spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of the possibility of a chain stretch or jumpy chain link in the upper chain of timing. However, the code won't appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It's a bit tricky to test since there are various pins on the connector and each has its own functions. The best way to do it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read around 1000 ohms when it is at full operation. If you're having issues with this sensor, look for evidence of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll i had an abrupt drop in power like the engine is running out of gas or the injectors are not firing at all. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, three were drenched in gasoline and the fourth was unclean. When I start the engine without sparks i put tissue on the top of each of the injector holes and the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th one stays shut. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found 0ohm. I think the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car will start if the G28 is unplugged and is running fine when it is connected however it is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temp value that is -49c even after unplugging it. Also, i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit is showing 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I'm not sure what to do. I believe that I've all other possibilities out. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. Let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 and they both work in the 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a junkyard or at a parts store. It is simple to test them - simply put your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing upwards). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that has to know the speed and position of the crankshaft to make a decision about fuel injector timing etc. In order to do this it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these go badly, you will see codes on the diagnostic scanner that can lead to engine shutdown.

Some of the signs of a failed G28 sensor are an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox, gears shifting quicker than normal, and/or a misfire when you are in gear. If you experience any of these issues it is most likely that your sensor is going bad and requires replacement audi key cost uk. They're cheap and easy to find especially if they're an Bosch sensor like ours. Alternately, GM's version this part is an option.

5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be a cause for many problems in your car. It's a crucial component of the transmission of your audi keys replacement cost since it sends information to the ECU about how fast or slowly the engine is turning. This sensor could cause the transmission to malfunction and other components in the car to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. It sends a signal via a gray wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU uses this signal to control the flow of fuel and boost and also timig. It also relays it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can test for sensor failure by checking continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. You can also verify continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. You should see approximately 1000 ohms resistance between these two points. This is a common part that is found across the audi a4 key replacement replacement audi key fob replacement cost uk (carlocksmiths85397.bloggip.com says) 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC until the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU, so the best ones might be availble in wrecking yards.Subaru-logo.png
