How to Replace an audi remote key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located near the edges of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The grey wire is situated on the outside of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to regulate fuel and boost. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft reached TDC, and where the camshaft lies so that it can activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails the ECU will show the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync and could indicate chain stretch or a jumped link on the upper chain of timing. The code will not appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing is a bit challenging since there are two pins for the connector and they perform different functions however the best method of testing it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. If the sensor is operational, it should read approximately 1000 ohms. If you are having problems with this component, look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at full speed, i noticed a huge decrease in power. It was like the engine had run out of gas. Or my injectors were not firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, three were soaked in gasoline, and the fourth was unclean. I placed a tissue over each injector hole and when i turn the engine on without sparks, the ones with gazoline jump out. The fourth one remains shut. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I get zero ohm. I'm assuming the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it works fine when the G28 connected. However the intermittent misfire issue persists at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c, even if I unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not certain what to do, as i believe that i've completely ruled out all other possibilities. But i'm worried that I might have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find the spare in a salvage shop or parts store. It is simple to test them: simply put your DMM into resistance mode and audi a3 replacement key replacement key cost (official kilian.co.kr blog) test the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing upwards). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that must know the speed and position of the crankshaft to make decisions about fuel injector timing etc. To accomplish this, it utilizes a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you encounter a problem with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will show codes that could lead to the engine shutting down.

Some of the signs of a malfunctioning G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox the gears are shifting faster than normal and/or misfiring when in gear. If you are experiencing any of these problems, it is likely that your sensor is failing and needs replacing. They are cheap and easy-to-find particularly when they're an Bosch model like ours. If you prefer, GM's version of this component is an option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be the reason behind numerous issues with your vehicle. It's a crucial component of the transmission of your Audi Q5 Key since it sends information to the ECU regarding how fast or slowly the engine of the car is turning. When this sensor fails, it could cause problems for the transmission and the other car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is situated on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear and transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU uses this signal to regulate fuel and boost, and also timig. It also transmits it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by checking continuity between it and the tachometer, between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection on pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) as well as between T6a/1, and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should detect an average resistance of 1000 ohms in these areas. This is the same across the audi key fob replacement cost 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting beginning with the 1985 MC and up to the 1997 UrS AN and the 1995 RS2 DU You may also find them in wrecking yards.
