How to Replace an audi a1 key replacement G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician shows you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The grey wire is located on the edge of transmission, just above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to regulate the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft reached TDC and also where the camshaft lies so that it can activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of the possibility of a chain stretch or audi q3 key jumped chain link in the upper chain of timing. The code won't appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing is a bit tricky because there are two pins for the connector and they perform different functions however the best method of testing it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is fully functional, it should read about 1000 ohms. Examine replacement key for audi evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if there are issues with this component.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at maximum speed I noticed a significant decrease in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. This morning i pull out the spark plugs. Three were drenched in gazoline, the fourth was dry. When I crank the engine, there are no sparks i put tissue on the top of each hole in the injector and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline pop out, but the 4th one stays shut. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I got 0ohm. I think the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID but without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it works fine when the G28 connected. However the intermittent misfire issue still occurs at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of that is -49c even after unplugging it. Also, i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit is showing 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.

I'm not sure what to do. I believe that I've ruled everything else out. But i am afraid I might have missed something. If anyone has any ideas please let me know! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and Audi Car keys RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate the spare in a salvage shop or a parts store. It is simple to test them - just put your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing up). They must be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that has to know the position and speed of the crankshaft in order to make decisions about fuel injector timing etc. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If you are experiencing issues with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will display the codes that could trigger an engine shutdown.

Some of the symptoms of a failed G28 sensor include an inaccurate gearbox rev counter and gears that shift faster than normal and/or misfiring when you're in gear. It is possible that your sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you experience any of these symptoms. They are cheap and easy-to-find particularly in the case of an Bosch sensor like ours. If you prefer, GM's version of this part is an option.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine speed sensor could be a cause for many issues in your vehicle. It is an important part of the transmission in your audi replacement key service near me since it sends information to the ECU on how fast or slowly the engine of the car is spinning. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other components of the car to be affected.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located at the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49, via a grey wire. The ECU uses this signal to regulate fuel and boost, and also to timigrate. It also relays it to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for any failure by checking the continuity between it and the tachometer, between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection on pin T6a/1 (trace [79]) and between T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. There should be an average resistance of 1000 ohms between these two points. This is a common feature across the audi tt replacement key 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting beginning with the 1985 MC and up to the 1997 UrS AN and 1995 RS2 DU So, you may find good ones in wrecking yards.
