How to Replace an audi Replacement key cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Mercedes-Benz-3D-Star.pngCharles the Humble Technician shows you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor audi Spare key is situated at the top of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49) and then to the tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 through the grey wire. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends signals to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can start spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jumpy chain link in the upper chain. However, the code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit challenging as there are two different connector pins, and they serve different purposes but the best way to test it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read approximately 1000 ohms if the sensor is at full operation. If you're having issues with this sensor, look for evidence of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll, I experienced a big cut in power as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors aren't firing any more. I took out the spark plugs this morning, three were soaked in gasoline, and the 4th was dry. When i crank the engine, there are no sparks, I put a piece of tissue on the top of each hole in the injector, the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th stays shut. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found zero ohm. I assume that the problem is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset PID without success. The car is able to start if the G28 is not plugged in and it runs perfectly when it is connected however it is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temperature of -49c, even if I unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars when the actual pressure is 0.

I don't know what to do. I feel like i've pretty much all other possibilities out. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. Let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is the same as the G4 and both are used in the 80, 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a salvage yard or at a parts store. Testing them is easy by putting your DMM in resistance mode and measure the resistance between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's side). They should be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines requires to know both the position and speed the crankshaft in order to make a decision about timing of the fuel injector, etc. It utilizes a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If either of these goes bad you will get codes on the diagnostic scanner which could cause engine shut down.

The signs of a failed G28 sensor are an inaccurate rev counter for the gearbox the gears are shifting faster than normal and/or misfiring when you are in gear. It is probable that the sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you experience any of these signs. The good news is they are very cheap and readily available particularly in the case of a Bosch model, which is what ours are. You can also choose the GM version of this component is also a good option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be the cause of many issues with your car. It is an important part of the transmission of your audi key fob replacement since it sends information to the ECU on how fast or slow the car's engine is turning. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other components of the car to be affected.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located on the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49 via a grey wire. The ECU then processes this signal to control fuel, timig and boost as well as transmitting it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can test the sensor audi Replacement Key fob for failure by examining the continuity between it and the tachometer, between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection to pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) as well as between T6a/1, and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should see the resistance to be around 1000 ohms in these areas. This is the same across the audi car key replacement cost 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS AN and the 1995 RS2 DU, so you might find good ones in wrecking yards.
